Spring Wing

Thought it was about time to bring back the fierceness of a sharp wing.

I pulled inspiration for this look from this gorgeous matte Bare Minerals blush. Not only did the vivid pigment give me serious spring fever, but I ended up using it on both my eyes and cheeks. Resulting in a pretty, peachy monochromatic glam!

I wanted to shy away from my typical shadow style by concentrating colors on the inner corners- bringing them up into the brow. This is a more wearable take on an exaggerated eyeshadow look. This technique also brings a different look and balance to the eyes, for the wing is tapered and thicker towards the end.

This look also mixes the element of soft and hard. While the liner brings a strong detail to the look, the use of peach and pastel tones balance with a soft, feminine feel.

Keeping the lower lash line bare was definitely new to me, but I love the contrast it brings, helping the focus remain upwards towards the shadows!

Finishing up this springtime glam, I realized how many drugstore and more affordable products I brought into the mix. It was truly refreshing to incorporate some new and some forgotten products, kind of like spring cleaning for the face!
Does this mean it's time to spring clean my apartment now?!

February Top 5 Beauty Favs

I couldn't stay away forever, monthly favorites are back!!

Here are the top five products I was living for throughout February.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics, Velour Liquid Lipstick- Celebrity Skin:
This has quickly become my new go-to nude lip! A soft brown with peach undertones, I love this lipstick for both natural and super glam days. Whatever magic unicorn dust Jeffree Star uses in his formula is life changing and never drying! This lippie literally stays put all day, even through eating, drinking, and laughing.

LA Girl, HD Concealer- Beautiful Bronze:
I have to credit Henry Vasquez (@nojusthenry) for making this my new cream contour shade! Not only is it a staple in my everyday makeup routine, but in my professional kit now as well. This shade works with many different skin tones; whether it be a subtle bronze to medium skin, or a deeper contour to lighter skin tones. Also dries down to a powder finish, making for easy fool proof blending. If you're a beginner or have been hesitant about cream contouring, I definitely recommend starting with this product!

Anastasia Beverly Hills, Starlight Illuminating Powder:

You've probably noticed this product all over my blog, Instagram, and face the last month! Anastasia seriously never fails when it comes to her products, and this highlighter is no exception. Giving that "lit from within" look, this white-gold highlighter wears beautifully alone or on top of a darker golden hue. The creamy texture of the powder also melts into skin, never giving away where highlight begins and where it ends!

Dose of Colors, Desert Suede:

After stalking their Instagram for when the holiday collection was released, I finally got my hands on this lippie (+ a few other shades). The formula of these liquid lipsticks is also amazing, withstanding daily actives with minimal flaking or wearing off. This shade is a gorgeous deep taupe-y nude, which is perfect for transitioning into spring makeup!

Hot Makeup, Red Carpet Ready Blush- Galaxy Season:

Shoutout to Henry once again for introducing me to this product! This has become my new everyday blush, for it packs amazing color payoff while flattering every skin tone (I've added one to my kit as well). This coral shade is slightly darker than most having more of a brown undertone, while the subtle glow gives cheeks a healthy flush.

*nails: Covergirl, Glowing Nights Glosstints- Laser Light

Until next month...

B A C K 2 B A S I C S

At the beginning of the month I mentioned how I was finally feeling like myself after a creative rut, and I like to think this look was my saving grace!

Instead of dwelling on the lack of creativity I was experiencing, I switched up my mindset and decided to go back to basics, my classic smokey eye.
Because what makes you feel more like you than your favorite glam?!

Smokey eyes come in all forms, colors, and intensities. I wanted to use colors that felt natural to me while switching up the technique. Instead of focusing the darkest color on the lid to create a blown out look, I opted for a gradient effect towards the temples. Having round eyes, extending the darkest color past the outer corner (think the same way you would wing liner) helps to elongate and fake the appearance of a more almond eye shape. Personally I always skip liner when doing a smokey eye on myself, so this trick also helps to define the eyes.

To achieve this look I literally used one palette, Urban Decay's Naked Basics! I could go on forever about the many reasons why this palette is a ride or die, but the main being its versatility. Whether it be it's sleek slim size which is perfect for travel, or the amount of looks you can achieve with its six velvety shades. These shadows are ideal for creating a smokey eye for they blend together seamlessly. Staying true to the matte theme, I chose to keep the rest of the look matte as well; with the obvious exception of a fierce cheekbone highlight. Finishing off with one of my favorite liquid lipsticks, Celebrity Skin by Jeffree Star Cosmetics.

Nude lips give me life! However you shouldn't be hesitant to pair your smokey eye with a darker, or even bolder lip. Just as your shouldn't follow the rules with it comes to the color of your smokey eye. Makeup doesn't have to be one way or the other. As long as there is a cohesive theme, whether it be in tone or texture, and a lot of confidence your look will look good. So if you want to rock a bold purple smokey eye and dark burgundy lip, then slay that look girl! You'll probably inspire someone else to slay it too.
